Jonathan Cowan started at Cova Security Gates back in September 2012 as an apprentice electrical technician, initially shadowing & working alongside our qualified team of electrical engineers.
We’re proud to share how his career path has grown and developed with us over this time and Jonathan’s steady career progression within the company has led him to his latest achievement; Project Manager for an International Government Building in Ankara, Turkey. Throughout the project, Jonathan video logged his experience and journey, following the project from the initial site survey, design to installation.
Jonathan’s Career : Apprentice Electrical Technician to Electrical Design Engineer
Upon commencing his apprenticeship, Jonathan began learning how to manufacture and test our in-house designed electrical controls and hydraulics for our gates, road blockers and barrier products. The role involved interpreting electrical circuit layout drawings, manufacturing control panels, assembling sub-assemblies and carrying out various testing in-line with our stringent ISO 9001 standard.
Cova design, manufacture, install and maintain all our own high-quality bespoke built products across the globe. Jonathan took advantage of opportunities outside of his normal role within our factory; from supporting our sales and marketing department to assisting on international installation and maintenance projects subsequently gaining a wealth of experience within our business.
Since completing his apprenticeship, Jonathan went onto study for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) and formally joined our Design Department in June 2016 taking full ownership and responsibility of designing and programming electrical control systems on both UK and on international projects.
Back in January 2018, Jonathan was appointed as Project Manager for a new client order on an important government building in Ankara, Turkey. Some of the roles and responsibilities during this project consisted of drafting the general arrangement drawings, producing electrical control drawings to integrate with the existing systems on site, meeting customer dead-lines and headed up the international team with the full installation of all equipment.
At the end of the project in August 2019, Jonathan was awarded his HNC certificate and will be carrying on through the academic year of 2019 – 2020 to gain his Higher National Degree (HND) in electrical and electronic engineering.
